Last week was a real busy week. On Monday we did Week 3 of SHINE, exploring the subject 'I have the power of choice!'. The fundamental message being that we each have the power to decide what we believe, and also what we do. We built on the previous weeks lessons, that when we value ourselves and know that we have worth we are more confident in our ability to make better and more informed choices, as well as believe in ourselves more. We looked at the difference between reacting and responding.
"It's not what's happening in your life that matters, it's how you deal with what's happening that matters!"
We also did a VICTIM AWARENESS Course in another prison, this was a two day course, 2 sessions per day. The women looked at:
'The Impact Their Crime Had On Their Victim's',
'The Short And Long Term Effects Of Crime From A Victim's Perspective', and
'Regret, Remorse And Responsibility'.
All sessions are aimed at helping the offender to see that there is no such thing as a victimless crime, crime impacts people, crime has effects, and crime changes lives. Each offender is asked to look at their own crime(s) and see what led to it, and what they could have done differently, as well as seeing if there are any ways that they can restore the situation, and make restitution for their offence.
'We cannot change the past but we can change the future!'
